   COD-FISHING SHOULD BE PROHIBITED

The International Council for Marine Affairs is saying that cod fishing should be prohibited. The cod population in the North Sea has never before been so low then recorded recently. The breeding population is so small that it may collapse at any time, according to researchers working for the council. They also feel that whiting and other species should be included in the prohibition, since they are often captured with the cod.
There hasn't been any lack of warnings since the herring was nearly wiped out in the sixties. Humans are generally overfishing and taxing all ecosystems beyond endurance on a daily basis.
Upcoming negotiations concerning next year's fisheries are expected to be very, very tricky indeed.
