SELLAFIELD IS TAKING THE LEAD AGAIN

The nuclear plant of Sellafield will next week, according to a spokesman for the company British Nuclear Fuel release unpurified Technetium 99 into the Irish Sea, already one of the most radioactive marine areas on the planet. The radioactive pollution will spread and reach the Scandinavian coastline in two or three years. Norway and Sweden have protested to the British government for years and attempted to make it close down the plant or at least make the owners economically responsible for the waste. There are talks about civil suits and more.
Sellafield has had one hell of a reputation since it was first used in the fifties. The name was changed from Windscale to Sellafield to take the brunt out of the massive critique. This without truly improving its records. A few years back even the British government, that has always been a staunch supporter of the plant warned people not to touch birds within a ten miles distance of the production facilities, calling the animals "flying nuclear waste". There have been many attempts to improve the public's perception of Sellafield, but no real attempts at improving on its numerous malpractices of controlled and "accidental" spills.
