   THE MILLENNIUM DOME

The British government has finally found a buyer for the Millennium Dome in Greenwich.
It's expected that the company Meridian Delta will buy the Dome and turn it into a sports- and entertainment center.
The Millennium Dome was the British government's prestige project for the millennium, but was an economic failure and had to be closed down. The maintenance alone has cost British taxpayers nearly 2 million pounds each month.
   - People build monuments to celebrate themselves, history professor Helen Rames says.- Some would claim that this is a recent phenomena, but it really isn't. I would claim that it is a "phenomenon" of civilization. The "seven wonders of the world" existed already at the time of the Roman empire. Civilized humans have always raised completely useless buildings and monuments to cover for their own vanity.
